Victor Landweber’s Picturesque Views convey every bit as much information as most landscape photographs, with their generic claims to satisfaction of our need for wilderness. Landweber borrowed a paint manufacturer’s sample chips of the Treasure Tones line to create his Polaroid landscapes. Abstract and representational at the same time, these are views of ideas of beauty.

Landweber credits Robert Fichter with introducing him to Robert Heinecken and Todd Walker. Together, the three “were a liberating influence—indicating a range of alternative possibilities for photography.”
