As a museum of American art with special interest in the art of California, the Laguna Art Musem has always been devoted to a broad range of artistic approaches and the full breadth of our history . The museum is grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the tour of this major exhibition of one of California’s most significant early artists.

A great many people are part of any large exhibition effort, and Granville Redmond is no exception. I would like to add the thanks of the Laguna Art Museum to the acknowledgements expressed in the exhibition catalogue. Harvey Jones, in particular, has been extraordinarily cooperative and resourceful in arranging a successful visit of the exhibition here. As Acting Chief Curator of Art at the Oakland Museum, he organized the show and catalogue, and wrote an insightful introduction. Mary Jean Haley and Mildred Albronda have made a major contribution through their essays and research.

For the museum’s members and trustees I want to particularly thank the Nichols Institute, its president, Albert Nichols, and Mrs. Nichols for their generous support of the exhibition. Without their enthusiasm and substantial financial assistance, Southern California would not have had the opportunity to study Granville Redmond’s work first-hand, or enjoy his spectacular artistic legacy.
